Description

This bay Quarab mare stands about 14.3hh. I think she is around 14 years old based on her teeth, but a photo has been provided so that you can judge for yourself. This mare is a bit thin and her feet are sore, but otherwise she appears fine. When I picked up her feet in the kill pen they were so jam packed with rocks and sticks that the sticks were literally embedded into her frog and her sole was partially growing around them. It was horrific and I have never seen anything like it. She was an absolute doll and allowed me to dig them all out and clean up her feet but afterwards she was very sore walking around - she had not been noticeably off before cleaning out her feet. I was afraid that she would be too lame to find a home, but today someone went out to check her and she was moving almost completely sound and just appeared to be very slightly off in one of her feet. This mare is one of the kindest and gentlest animals that I have met in a long time. She definitely loves people, but she is calm and quiet about it. She wants to get close and put her head against you and follow you around, but at the same time she is very respectful and seems to try and stay out of your way. The horse next to her was a very angry horse and kept trying to rile Aleta up, but Aleta just stayed calm and docile no matter what. She was exceptionally easy to handle, was polite, and did everything we asked immediately. She leads, ties, backs, yields quarters, and is a complete doll with her feet. I have been told that Aleta was ridden through the auction, but I did not see it. I put weight on her back then jumped beside her and she couldn't care less. I made her lead rope into makeshift reins and held them above her back and she went forward at a cluck, stopped, backed and turned both directions like she knew exactly what I was asking. She seemed to be very confused when I left her there.
