HistoryNoneDescriptionThis mare was extremely skittish and turned her butt to me every time I entered her pen. She was haltered and did lead through the ring but did so very poorly and was consistently walking over her handler. We were never able to get close to her and I believe she is likely been handled very little. Her feet were slightly overgrown but appeared to be in overall decent shape given their length. I believe she stands just over 15hh but that is a guess since I did not get very close to her.
Later update from April:
This girl is my pick of the group! Should be renamed Sweetie. :)
When I arrived she was the first to take a few steps towards me, then she stopped and watched me for a while. While I was evaling her buddy, she came right up to me and let me say hi, and then let me catch her. She doesn't seem to know almost anything. She leads ok, picks up her feet ok, doesn't know how to back, or move her shoulder, or drop her head, though she did move her hips over for me. She was fine with me pulling on her tail, but wasn't real sure about the rope being tossed at her. I didn't try jumping b her side because of how she handled on the ground - it is highly unlikely that she is broke.
She's very sweet though! She is pushy, kept wanting to walk back to the group, or walk on top of me, but when told no she did eventually get it. By the time we finished she was standing calmly at the end of the rope, and really enjoyed being loved on. She is a project, but should came around very quickly with just a little bit of time!
The halter she's wearing was very tight - to the point where she has a sore/rub mark on the right side of her face. I loosened it two holes, so the poor girl should have a little bit of relief now! I'mm assuming the halter and the neck collar are on because her owners had a hard time catching her, and the halter has certainly been on her for some time! She was taped I believe at 14.3hh, and though nervous of the tape at first, got over it pretty quickly. She should be very easy to work with! Shes's got a great mind. I just love her!
Her left hind is a tad swollen, but I didn't get a chance to check it out, she was moving far to much. The front with the bump seems to be an old injury, as she didn't care at all when I prodded at it, and there was no heat or anything. I would also say she is for sure an Arab.
